The news today of a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas is incredibly tragic. We feel such deep sorrow for the students, staff, families and their entire community. 

In response, the Tacoma Police Department redirected officers to our elementary schools today to help reassure families, students and staff. We sincerely appreciate their dedication and support. 

Your child’s safety is our top concern, and we will continue to prioritize health and safety in our schools. Our schools have comprehensive plans in place to ensure safe learning environments for all students. 

Families who have questions about a school’s safety and support responses are encouraged to contact their principal. 

We acknowledge the intense trauma and long-term effects on the entire community from these tragedies. Skilled counselors at each of our schools are available to speak with students if they have any questions or feel the need to talk to someone.

This is a good time for us to remind you of our joint campaign with law enforcement called, “See Something, Say Something.” We encourage everyone in our community who sees or hears a threat at any of our schools to immediately call 911.
